How to add a PDF boarding pass to Apple Wallet on iPhone
A PDF needs to become a Wallet pass before you can add it. PassDrop creates a .pkpass file from the ticket information rather than storing the original PDF inside Wallet.
- Save the original PDF from your airline or ticket email to Files on your iPhone.
- Open PassDrop in Safari, choose your PDF, and follow the upload prompts. Use a clear document with the complete barcode visible.
- When processing finishes, open the generated pass using Add to Apple Wallet. Check the ticket details in the Wallet preview, then tap Add.
- Keep your original PDF available in case the issuer or venue requires it.
Prefer to start from another app? Use the PassDrop iOS Shortcut. You can also see examples of converted tickets.
PDF conversion questions and troubleshooting
What if the barcode is missing or unreadable?
Try the original PDF instead of a compressed screenshot. Make sure the entire code is visible and sharp. You can use our barcode extraction tool to inspect codes separately. Compare the generated pass with your source ticket before relying on it.
Will the converted pass be accepted?
Acceptance depends on the issuer and its scanning system. Conversion does not change ticket validity or replace an issuer's official pass. Tickets with rotating barcodes or an app-only entry requirement may need the issuer's app. Keep the original ticket and check the issuer's instructions.
What if the PDF is too large?
PDFs up to 10 MB are supported. Export only the pages you need if your file exceeds the limit, while keeping the barcode readable. Check the upload result for any additional limits or processing errors.
Why does the pass download instead of opening Wallet?
If you converted the PDF on a computer, transfer the .pkpass file to your iPhone and open it there. If an in-app browser only downloads the file, try opening PassDrop in Safari on your iPhone and use Add to Apple Wallet again.
Can I convert a .pkpass file back to PDF here?
This tool converts PDFs to Apple Wallet passes. It does not export existing .pkpass files as PDFs. For a printable ticket, use the original document from the issuer.
